Sheer beauty...
The city palace Udaipur boasts of one sumptuous room after another. Though faded and frayed in parts, the sheer and exquisite beauty of these rooms is hard to describe....

Chewing gum, art and protest
A harmless pleasure in most societies, chewing gum is banned in Singapore. So artists found a novel way to protest: these works of 'art' at the Singapore Art Museum, are the result of chewed gum spat out and stuck on canvass.

Kep - far from the madding crowd
People visit Cambodia to see the temples of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap...some of them venture into the capital Phnom Penh. But Kep, a small sea side resort close to the border with Vietnam, is not on many tourist maps (other than of course the residents of Cambodia). So an obvious advantage - you can enjoy the natural beauty of Kep without the crowds.
Once a popular beach town, Kep went through difficult times during the reign of the Khmer Rouge. It still bears the scars of that time - abandoned villas...and an unfinished king's palace.
It's sweeping sidewalks though, are a reminder of it's former grandness; the benches dotting the sidewalks a great place to admire the magnificent vistas...before you head off to the local seafood joint for your fix of delicious crabs, squids...and lots more.

More than just friends...or food.
The "Friends" restaurant in Phnom Penh, Cambodia is run by an NGO and staffed by street children training to be a part of the hospitality industry. It's not just the tapas that make this place special, and kind of famous...

Locked out
One of the advantages of an early morning visit to Old Delhi, is that against the backdrop of the colourful shutters of the many closed shops, the locks themselves make for interesting visuals. Below are some from a few weeks back.
Of course, Old Delhi is not the only place which makes for interesting lock visuals....this set of photographs is from across the world - Alexandria (Egypt) to Bangalore, Gwalior to California.

Nothing to laugh about....
Some weeks ago, I was literally accosted by scores of young girls - out at Humayun's tomb on a school trip...they all wanted to pose in front of my camera. But one girl didn't seem to share the carefree exuberance of her school mates...and I wondered what it was, that made her sad.

Egyptian surprise
Think of Egypt and what comes to mind...the Nile and famous ancient structures - the pyramids, the sphinx, the massive Rameses statues, the valley of kings & queens and such like. Less well known is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (in the Egyptian port city of Alexandria) - one of the most interesting modern structures I have ever come across.
The picture below is one teeny weeny part of the massive structure...scroll down for other views.
